Bamberg · 5 entries
Bamberg is a UNESCO World Heritage city and simultaneously one of Germany's greatest beer towns. With over ten breweries within the city limits, beer has deep roots here, but the nightlife extends well beyond the traditional brewery tap room. Obere Sandstrasse is the historic pub strip, while side streets hide creative cocktail bars and cultural venues.
Obere Sandstrasse
Obere Sandstrasse (locals call it "Sand") is Bamberg's best-known going-out strip. In the historic buildings, pubs and bars line up side by side, particularly inviting in summer with their beer gardens and outdoor seating. The mood is sociable and relaxed.
Beer Culture
Bamberg is famous for its Rauchbier — a malty, beechwood-smoked beer found nowhere else quite like this. The Schlenkerla and Spezial breweries are the most famous addresses, but smaller operations like Faessla have also achieved cult status.
Tips
- Rauchbier: A must-try — even if the first sip takes getting used to.
- Sand: Arrive early on weekends, especially in summer.
- Best nights: Thursday is student night, Friday and Saturday for everyone.
