Claerchens Ballhaus
Claerchens Ballhaus is a living piece of Berlin history. Dancing has taken place here since 1913, and the venue has survived two world wars, the division of the city, and reunification. The magnificent mirror hall upstairs with its weathered elegance ranks among the most photogenic rooms in the city. Today it hosts concerts and special events, while the ground floor sees daily dancing - from swing to tango to salsa.
What sets Claerchens apart from other Berlin nightlife spots is the mix of its audience. Eighty-year-olds dance alongside twenty-somethings, tourist couples beside lifelong Berlin residents. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, entirely without the exclusivity claims of the club scene. During the day, the ground floor operates as a restaurant with Italian cuisine and a charming courtyard that invites lingering in summer.
The venue opens daily from 11:00. Dance evenings begin between 19:00 and 21:00 depending on the programme. Entry to regular dance events is often free or costs just a few euros. Higher prices apply for special events and concerts. The location sits on Auguststrasse in Mitte, surrounded by galleries and restaurants. Nearest U-Bahn: Oranienburger Tor (U6). Restaurant reservations are recommended.
