Prater Garten
Prater Garten on Kastanienallee is Berlin's oldest beer garden, in continuous operation since 1852. Under old chestnut trees, several hundred guests find seating, and on warm summer evenings the atmosphere recalls a Bavarian beer garden idyll - just with a Berlin attitude. The beer garden is a place to slow down in the middle of bustling Prenzlauer Berg: sit with a freshly tapped beer, chat, and enjoy the evening.
Alongside the seasonal beer garden, the Prater Gaststaette is an indoor restaurant open year-round serving solid German cuisine. Prices are reasonable: a half-litre of beer costs around 4 euros, and the menu offers classics like schnitzel and bratwurst at fair prices. The beer garden operates on a self-service basis at the counter.
The beer garden opens seasonally, typically from April to October, in good weather from the afternoon onwards. The restaurant is open year-round. The location on Kastanienallee is ideal for a stroll through Prenzlauer Berg with its boutiques, cafes, and Mauerpark within walking distance. Nearest U-Bahn: Eberswalder Strasse (U2). Payment in the beer garden is generally cash; the restaurant also accepts cards.
