Altstadt Breweries

The heart of Düsseldorf's drinking culture lies in its historic brewpubs. Zum Uerige on Berger Straße has been brewing the city's most famous Altbier since 1862 — the Köbes waiters will keep refilling your glass until you place your coaster on top. Brauerei im Füchschen on Ratinger Straße has been serving since 1848 and draws a more local, less touristy crowd. Hausbrauerei Zum Schlüssel sits right on the lively Bolkerstraße party mile and has a fantastic terrace. All three are budget-friendly and offer a convivial atmosphere at long communal tables.

Cocktail Bars & Clubs in the Altstadt

For upscale nightlife, the Old Town has plenty of stylish options. Sir Walter on Heinrich-Heine-Allee is a cocktail bar that transforms into a party venue — its Thursday "Milchbar" after-work event is legendary. Elephant Bar on Kurze Straße impresses with 1960s retro aesthetics and outstanding gin cocktails. The club scene centers around Mertensgasse: Cube spans multiple levels with everything from techno to hip-hop, while the neighboring SilQ Club focuses on house and techno with international DJs. Nachtresidenz on Bahnstraße is the city's most prominent large club, with two dance floors in a former theater. On Ratinger Straße, Der Hof keeps the alternative music scene alive — the historic birthplace of German punk.

MedienHafen Lounges

The MedienHafen (Media Harbor) offers an entirely different vibe. Meerbar at Neuer Zollhof is the flagship lounge with 600 square meters, Rhine views, and the famous Gehry buildings as a backdrop. Au Quai on Kaistraße pairs 1920s-inspired interiors with cocktails and views of the Rheinturm — especially atmospheric at dusk. Rudas Studios, housed in the former recording studios where Kraftwerk and the Rolling Stones once recorded, hosts club nights with a state-of-the-art sound system.
