Agar
Agar claims the title of Freiburg's largest dance floor and makes good on the promise by spreading across three distinct levels on Loewenstrasse. Each floor runs its own music programme, so you can shift from chart hits to hip-hop to electronic sounds simply by climbing or descending a staircase. For a city of Freiburg's size, this kind of variety within a single venue is rare and makes Agar the default destination when the goal is dancing rather than sitting.
The crowd is overwhelmingly young and student-driven, and the pricing reflects that. Entry fees are low or nonexistent on most nights, and drinks stay in the budget range. The energy peaks after midnight, particularly on Thursdays and Saturdays when the floors fill to capacity and the temperature rises accordingly. The decor is functional rather than fancy — nobody comes to Agar for the interior design.
Located in the thick of the Bermudadreieck, Agar benefits from heavy foot traffic as people move between the surrounding bars. It is common to start the night at one of the pubs on Loewenstrasse and end it on one of Agar's dance floors. No strict dress code applies. Cash is recommended. Bertoldsbrunnen tram stop is a short walk away.
