Bergstrasse — the Party Strip

Bergstrasse is the beating heart of Kiel's nightlife. Luna Club has been the go-to spot for electronic music since the turn of the millennium. Right next door, Tucholsky spreads disco and party vibes across three floors, a tradition dating back to the 1970s. Hidden in the courtyard at number 17, Schaubude is an alternative hangout hosting readings, poetry slams, and intimate live shows. At the lower end of the street, Pogue Mahone is a proper Irish pub with well-poured Guinness and a mixed international crowd.

Harbor & Culture

On the waterfront, Blauer Engel on Kaistrasse serves straightforward drinks with a view of the ships. For a more politically minded and plant-based scene, Hansa48 on Hansastrasse is a self-run cultural pub offering concerts, lectures, and affordable vegan food.

Tips

• Best nights: Friday and Saturday on Bergstrasse; weekdays are better for cultural programming at Hansa48.
• Kiel Week: In late June, the entire harbor turns into one giant party — everything is buzzing.
• Getting there: Bergstrasse is just a short walk from the main train station.
