Spitalgarten

Spitalgarten on St. Katharinenplatz belongs to the Spital brewery and has been in operation since 1226, making it one of the oldest beer gardens in Europe. Its location directly on the Danube riverbank, with an unobstructed view of the Stone Bridge and the old town skyline, is nothing short of spectacular. On warm summer evenings there is no better spot in all of Regensburg for a cold beer. The house-brewed Spital beer follows traditional recipes and is available exclusively here.

The beer garden offers several hundred seats beneath old chestnut trees, accompanied by a solid selection of Bavarian snacks. Prices are remarkably low for the location and quality. In winter the action moves inside to the dining room, which exudes its own historic charm. On sunny weekends the garden fills up quickly, so arriving early secures the best seats with a Danube panorama.
